Being in Nature & Breath Awareness
- Excerpts from "Being in Nature with Eckhart Tolle"

Nature becomes conscious of itself through you. But it also helps you to realign yourself with Stillness.
You become aware of something that is deeper than the forms you see that underlies all that and pervades that space. It is then that you really become aware of the sacredness of nature. There's something that always goes beyond the senses. There's depth that you don't know is there until the thinking "mind" stops. Awareness arises and then you can feel there's an essence to the forest that is beyond whatever the sensory experience you may have. Simultaneously, you sense that there is an essence to "who you are", equally that goes far beyond what the senses can tell you about yourself and very far beyond what your psychological self. It's deeper than that. It's deeper than the physical body. Deeper than the psychological body, so to speak.
The essence that is "within" and "without" is the "Essence of Being". The forest is alive. There's an intelligence underlying it. That is what creates a harmony of the forest.
Now, there may be one or two people who perhaps are stuck somewhere in a room or they may be in prison. They may say, "What can we do? We can't get out into nature." Remember your body is also nature, so you can start there. Every time you take a breath, that's nature. Nature's breathing the air. What you're breathing is nature. The very fact that breathing is a natural process. It's not a choice. It's done for you. Not so much that you breathe. The body does it. It's a natural process. Breathing is semi-voluntary. You can stop it for a while. If you stop it for too long, nature takes over. You live with nature with your body. So even if you can't get out, you can start by being aware of that level of yourself - your breath.
